Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Assess brief requirements
   • Printing requirements of layout brief are determined for printing feasibility
   • Brief is broken down into stages of production to determine a plan of procedure
   • Plan of action is determined to meet time requirements of each stage so deadlines are identified and adhered to
   • Correct design and typographic terms are used to facilitate communication
2. Assemble layout materials
   • Client copy and images are assembled to conform to the client brief
   • Library files are accessed for relevant data to conform to the brief
   • Appropriate equipment and materials to complete layout are assembled to enable the brief to be undertaken efficiently
3. Construct a simple graphic design
   • Client requirements are checked to ensure design concept matches the brief
   • Preliminary graphic design ideas are sketched according to the brief
   • Simple graphic design concept is rendered, electronically or manually, to conform to the brief
   • Rendered graphic design is checked for conformance to the brief
4. Produce finished artwork
   • Layout grid is ruled up according to the brief
   • Type selection, style and size are selected for theme and readability and fitted into allocated grid space to conform to the brief
   • Originalsand elements are selected, scaled and cropped appropriately to fit the allocated grid space
   • Layout components are accurately positioned using keylines to conform to the grid framework
   • Overlays/colour roughs are created to conform to the brief
5. Check for suitability
   • Layout is checked to eliminate omissions and errors
   • Layout design is checked for conformance to the brief
   • Proofsare produced for hardcopy checking
   • Layout is rendered ready for client presentation
6. Tidy materials and store data
   • Equipment and materials are returned to storage according to enterprise procedures
   • Design data and materials are filed ready for future retrieval according to enterprise procedures
   • Design area is cleaned to enterprise procedures ready for re-use

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

prepare TWO manual and electronic artworks for screen printing, according to client specifications

apply design principles when combining elements and colour to prepare artwork, both manually and electronically, to the satisfaction of the client

find and use task-relevant information from a variety of information sources.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
